As of September 21st, 2017 American Health Value will no longer be administering health savings accounts (HSA) and have transferred the administrative rights and duties to HealthEquity. As of today, we are no longer a point of contact for anyone who currently possesses an HSA, or for anyone looking to open an HSA.
Please see the information below for instructions relating either to existing account holders, or those looking to open an HSA:
Existing Account Holders
Nothing with your HSA has changed. You have the same checking/routing numbers, the same debit card, and the same online credentials necessary to access your account. Going forward, you simply need to direct all funding and inquiries to HealthEquity instead of our office.
You can visit the following links to access a PDF copy of the letters that were mailed to individual account holders and/or employer groups announcing this transition:
To access your HSA online: Click here
To contact HealthEquity directly: please call 877-694-3942 or email them at info@healthequity.com
Opening A New HSA
We are not able to open an HSA for you at this time. Please visit www.healthequity.com to open your health savings account.
A Sincere Thank You
After 20 years of HSA administration, American Health Value has made the difficult decision to exit the HSA marketplace. Each and every one of our clients have been at the center of what we have done for two decades and are the reason why our staff has been so honored to suit up and show up for you at work every single day. It is with our clients at heart, that we feel it is in their best interest to transition them over to our custodial banking partner HealthEquity and allow them to also take on the full role as your HSA administrator.
From everyone at American Health Value, it has truly been a pleasure serving the HSA needs for all of our clients over the last two decades and we sincerely thank all of you for the opportunity to work together.

This week we're highlighting the "Pharmacy" section of our Free Healthcare Discount Program to try to help get the word out. It's a free program that will save people (insured or not) up to 65% off the cost of prescription drugs at thousands of pharmacies across the nation. But, what's the catch?
There isn't one. There are no fees, there's no club or newsletter to join, we don't even want your email address. Go to our website, print it off, and it's ready to go.
This program couldn't be more simple and straightforward. How simple, you ask? Here's the in's and out's:
- It's free
- You don't need to have an HSA with us to get it
- It can be used with or without any insurance policy
- It can save you up to 65% off the cost of prescriptions
- It's accepted at 1,000's of pharmacies across the nation
- Just print it off, it's pre-activated and ready to use
- Free pharmacy locator - Enter your zip and Rx to get real pricing at your local pharmacy
The only real question is, "Why wouldn't you use it?"

This free discount program was originally something we developed to give our HSA account holders an added benefit to alleviate the rising cost of health care in this country. However, after watching that cost balloon year after year, we saw the negative impact it was having on everyone, whether you had an insurance policy or not.
After laboring over contracts and red tape for 2 years, we were able to establish a program that would provide real, tangible benefit to anyone who possessed it - whether you had an HSA with us or not - whether you even had a current health insurance policy or not.
Take it for a test drive and see for yourself!
Visit the Pharmacy Discount Page on our website to both print the card and use the pharmacy locator to put in your zip code and prescription to see how much you can be saving at your local pharmacy.
We encourage anyone and everyone to take advantage of this free healthcare discount program and all the benefit it can provide. Use it yourself, share it with friends and family, or hand it out at churches and events. Put it in the hands of anyone that can use it.
On behalf of all of us at American Health Value, we hope this card helps and you are truly able to find some savings in today's rising health care costs.

Don't be alarmed...American Health Value just has a new logo!
We're officially announcing the new version of our logo, right here on our blog! Although our old one was near and dear to our hearts, we realized it was time for a change...
We had been using the same basic logo with minor tweaks here and there over the years, but we wanted to really bring our logo up to date with some significant changes - of course while staying true to where we've been and what our wonderful clients and agents are familiar with.
We contacted Neoreef, a local graphic design/web-development company, and gave them the existing versions of our logo and where we wanted to go with it. We told them we wanted to take it from the flat 2 dimensional logo we've had in the past and make it really stand out in a 3D kind of way. Add some shadows, update the font, and add a nice shiny finish. Wow, did they ever deliver!
Below are some images of our logo evolution over the years, and underneath is our new logo. What do you think? Do you like the new version? Jump over to our Facebook Page and let us know!
Here's our new version:
We hope you guys like it! Let us know what you think on Facebook or ! We look forward to hearing from everyone.

Last week we had the opportunity to attend the annual ICMG (Inter-Company Marketing Group) Conference which was held in beautiful Phoenix, AZ. ICMG has become one of our favorite annual events to attend because it is invite-only, is attended solely by Presidents and CEO's, and creates excellent opportunities to bring more value-added programs and benefits to our account holders.
American Health Value was the title sponsor for the annual ICMG golf tournament, and this year proceeds went to benefit The First Tee. The First Tee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit initiative of the World Golf Foundation based in St. Augustine, FL. The First Tee's mission is to impact lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
You can learn more about The First Tee by visiting their website, or watching this great video below:
One of the highlights of the conference was attending the presentation of keynote speaker Bill Driscoll. William P. Driscoll is a Former US Navy TOPGUN Aviator and instructor.
He served as a member of the US Navy's first and only team of jet-missle Aces, shot down five enemy fighters in combat (Vietnam) and is one of the highest decorated living Naval Flight Officers of the past 50 years. His major awards include: The Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, the Purple Heart, ten Air Medals, and a nomination for the Medal of Honor.
If any of you ever get the chance to see this man speak, we highly recommend you attend! He does an incredible job of relating the principles that are required to be a Navy fighter pilot (discipline, focus, intensity, and commitment) to being successful in both your business and personal life. He is truly a gifted speaker that inspires you to strive for these canons in every facet of your life.
When it was all said and done, ICMG was a huge success! The sold-out golf tournament raised a significant sum to donate to The First Tee, and we made some great new business contacts. We look forward to working with these businesses in the future to offer our clients additional value-added services and benefits in conjunction with their health savings account.

All of us here at American Health Value are so excited to officially announce our partnership with My HSA Rewards this week! We've been working out the details for quite awhile and can finally offer this amazing new program to all our account holders, for free!
What is My HSA Rewards, you ask?
My HSA Rewards is a free cash rewards program designed to help individuals contribute more money into their HSAs via rebates from everyday purchases. American Health Value account holders may enroll in My HSA Rewards at no cost, and when they make everyday purchases through any of the 500 plus merchants in the program, a portion of their spending will be deposited back into their health savings account!
Think of it as a free and simple way to help you put more money into your HSA by buying things you're already buying! Anything you purchase at Best Buy, Macy's, Home Depot, Walmart, etc. gives you an instant cash back reward you can turn around and place in your HSA. There are hundreds of retailers to choose from, and the ability to basically fund your HSA for free by purchasing things you already purchase is a huge benefit.
If you want to get creative, there are also ways you can "double dip" with this program. For example, let's say you purchase a laptop through Best Buy. You buy it using your credit card that has its own rewards points or frequent flyer miles system, and you earn your credit card rewards like you would normally.
In addition, if you're also signed up with HSA Rewards you're going to get an instant cash reward back on the other end of the purchase that can be deposited in your HSA as well! Double dip. You get the rewards points from your credit card company, and the cash back reward from HSA Rewards that goes into your HSA where it will earn tax-free interest and can be withdrawn tax-free for medical expenses. It's a totally free program that is simple to use and basically pays you to shop!
You can check out all the retailers that are available in their online mall, and you can see the percentage of your total purchase you'll receive in the form of a cash back reward. Go check out all the stores, you'll be amazed how many of your favorites are currently offering cash back rewards to HSA Rewards members. Increase your HSA deposits, your health care dollars, and your retirement savings simply by shopping!

American Health Value recently had the opportunity to support and attend an annual event that had a great impact on our local community. The event was a charity auction put on by the Treasure Valley Association of Health Underwriters with the proceeds going to benefit an organization called City Light.

City Light Home for Women and Children was opened in 2000 to serve the needs of Boise's most vulnerable homeless. They offer free meals and emergency shelter to women and their children, as well as counseling and other assistance as needed.

For our contribution to the auction, we decided to put together a basket full of items from Williams-Sonoma. We went out to their store, mentioned what we were doing, and they were more than helpful.
They informed us that for every $100 gift card purchased, they donate $10 to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! Needless to say, we bought a couple of those and then used them to purchase the items for our auction basket. Williams-Sonoma even threw in a cutting board for free!
The event was a huge success with several thousand dollars being raised to benefit City Light, and our basket went for a great price! We had a wonderful time attending, and were more than honored to be able to do what we could to benefit such a worthy cause.

Given that it's Thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to write about a few things that all of us at American Health Value are thankful for. We wanted to take a broad approach to our list and mention things that people don't necessarily think of on a daily basis, but nearly everyone can relate to.
We hope you enjoy our list, and feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments below!

Freedom:
This is something none of us should take for granted, as the price we have paid for it is steep. Countless people have taken the oath to protect our freedoms at home and abroad. We think it's important to recognize their sacrifice not only during Thanksgiving, Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day, but everyday throughout the year. If you meet a veteran, shake their hand and say, "Thank You".
Here is one of the wonderful organizations dedicated to helping our brave veterans:
The Wounded Warrior Project exists to honor and empower wounded warriors who incurred service-connected injuries on or after September 11, 2001. On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers.
WWP is the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs. Offering a variety of programs and services, WWP is equipped to serve warriors with every type of injury - from the physical to the invisible wounds of war.
*** A Special "Thank You" ***

LCpl N. Vandeventer, USMC Retired
Shelter:
Shelter is one of the 5 Basic Human Needs, and the luxury it provides can sometimes slip under the radar on a daily basis. For most of us, what comes to mind when we think of shelter are examples of extremes: We can all relate to how nice it feels to make it to your car when it's raining in the parking lot, walking into your air-conditioned house on a hot summer day, or sitting next to the fireplace in the lodge after a long day on the slopes.
What about the day-to-day? What about all those people who have nowhere to go, no roof over there head to provide protection from the elements, sanctity, and a sense of security? Take a moment every once in awhile to stop and think about how lucky you are to have shelter, and if you can, please see what you can do to help those less fortunate. We all can't house everyone in need, but we all can do a little that would go a very long way.
Click here to find a local homeless shelter and/or soup kitchen in your area.
People Who Work Holidays:
Most of us (hopefully) have the "big" holidays off from work. Thanksgiving, Christmas, July 4th, New Years...but for a significant number of employees across the country, these days are no different than any other. Most of the people who work on holidays are in the service industry in one form or another. Restaurants and bars, hospitals, military, firefighters, police, senior centers, etc.
Crime, emergencies, war & illness don't take the day off, and unfortunately neither can many of the employees and military personnel who specialize in these fields. These people are the glue that hold our cities and towns together. They're typically the people you call when you need help the most. Someone broke into your house; a loved one had a stroke. They are always there when we need them, day or night, holiday or not.
So while we all sit down with our friends and families this Thanksgiving, if you are afforded the opportunity to do so, please take a moment and be thankful that you have that time to spend with each other. Know that all those people are away from their friends and families, waiting to help yours at a moment's notice if they are in need.
Our Health:

Have you ever taken a moment to stop and be thankful that you're healthy? For many of us, we think about how nice it was to be healthy when we've caught a bug and are lying in bed wishing we could instantly feel better. Sound familiar?
One particular example comes to mind for me... A few years back, I broke my thumb. Although it is relatively obvious how vital our opposable thumbs are to our everyday existence, you rarely stop to appreciate the ability to use them. Without thumbs, you can't do much. Good luck tying your shoes, eating with utensils, or picking up anything at all. All I remember thinking about was how much I truly appreciated having the ability to use both of them, and that I would never take them for granted again.
Though my examples may sound trivial, we all should be more grateful and in tune with our overall health, and virtually everyone could stand to be a little bit more accountable. Health is a blessing, and is something that cannot be understated. We only have so many sunrises - start adding to the total instead of subtracting from it. Treat your body well. Try to eat a little better. Exercise. The end result is more time with the people you love, and nothing is more important than that.
Family:

Family is a funny thing, and it means many different things to many different people. Regardless of what family means to you, there is one unequivocal truth: Sometimes we can't live with them, but we could never live without them.
Who would you be, or better yet, where would you be without your family? As none of us can be sure in our answer to these questions, we call can be sure that nobody on earth cares more for us than our families. Family is around in good times and bad, when the chips are up and when they're down. Our families know how to push us to succeed in life, how to motivate us to do what's right, regardless of whether or not we may agree at the time.
Families as a unit always seem to have the bigger picture in mind, and the unit's collective vision is rarely blinded by incidental details or fallacies. They are the people we credit in times of triumph, and they are the crutch we lean on when times are tough.
This Thanksgiving, take a moment to reflect on your family and everything you have been through together. Thank those who have helped you along the way, and reach out to those you haven't spoken to in awhile. Relationships and bonds such as the ones we share with our families - flawed or flawless - are powerful and real, and we should all be thankful to have them.
All of us here at American Health Value wish you and your family a safe, healthy, & happy Thanksgiving!

American Health Value recently had the opportunity to sponsor a local event whose proceeds went to benefit a very deserving charity. When we heard what it was for, it didn't take long to decide we wanted to contribute to the cause any way we could.

The event was the "Live to Bfit 5k Run/Walk" and the 3+ mile course ran along the scenic Boise River. Several of our employees even "took the plunge" and signed up to participate in the race! One of our employees actually finished 4th overall in the women's division!
All of us had a blast, and it was so much fun to get outside on such a beautiful day and have the opportunity to help out a local charity in the process.
Here's a picture of some of us at the finish line:
The benefiting charity for the race was Camp River Run. Camp River Run is a 4 day summer camp in Cascade, ID designed for kids ages 7-14. It offers children who battle life-threatening or disabling medical conditions an outdoor camp experience to rejuvenate their youth and strengthen their spirits.
If you would like to help out, you can donate to Camp River Run & help support their wonderful cause. Or, you can register for next year's 5k & join all of us out on the course!

For our first blog post, we wanted to take the opportunity to share what an exciting time we had at the CAHU 2011 Health Care Summit in Burbank, CA! We actually sponsored this event, and had the pleasure of spending time with two close friends and partners: Jay Fettig, co-founder of the BATTLE System, and Harry Thal, the unofficial Medicare expert of California!

During the conference, we actually reached out to a man named Michael Reynolds who had tweeted that he was speaking at the show about the impact of social media! We told him to stop by our booth and say "Hello" after his speech and sure enough, there he was!
He shot this short video promo for us as a "Thank You" for using social media the way he was discussing in his speech! Check out the video below with our National Marketing Director Rebecca Messreni and Jay Fettig, co-founder of the B.A.T.T.L.E. System!
When it was all said and done, we made a lot of new friends and reconnected with a lot of old friends as well. It was a really positive show, and we are really looking forward to working with all the agents we met in every aspect of their business. It is always an honor and a pleasure to meet face to face with the people who are truly on the front lines of today's health care landscape!
